According to Manchester Union Leader Correspondent Jerry Miller (Manchester, NH), Secretary
of the Navy announced a Virginia Class submarine to be named USS New Hampshire.
- Healthy New Hampshire 2004. According to Morgan Quinto Press
(Lawrence, KS), New Hampshire was named the healthiest state in the nation, and
first in the nation for being the most livable. NH was also rated fourth

8 places to retire according to Money Magazine.
- Healthy New Hampshire 2002. Using Government statistics, the United
Health Foundation ranked NH as the healthiest state in the US. For

growth rate of 7.8 percent from 1999 to 2000, NH is 4th in the nation for economic

(NH) Coin Has Two Heads 2000. It's the first time in history, a
U.S. coin has two heads. Governor's Commemorative Coin Committee reports
"the design showcases a profile view of the rock formation known as 'the Old Man of
the Mountain.' The wording 'Live Free or Die' and 'Old Man of the Mountain' and nine
stars indicating New Hampshire's entrance into the Union are also part of this
design." Accoring to Seacoast Online, Director of the U.S. Mint, Jay Johnson
said "over 100 million people all over the world are collecting the coins [50 State
Quarters]."
- Healthy New Hampshire 2000. According to Morgan Quinto Press
(Lawrence, KS), New Hampshire was ranked the healthiest state in the nation, and
fifth in the nation among the most livable. NH was also rated
"best" for low crime rate, infant mortality rate, poverty rate and the amount of

- Lowest Tax NH 2000. As printed in N.H. Business Review in the March
24 - April 2000 edition, "A national tax research group [Tax Foundation] found that New
Hampshire's state government collected less in taxes per person last year than any other
state's."
- Best Places to Live in U.S.A. 1998. According to Money magazine's
12th (July 1998) annual list, Manchester, New Hampshire was named the top
small city in the Northeast. Greg Salts of the Manchester Airport News
cites low violent crime rate, and low unemployment as contributors.
- Best Places to Live in U.S.A. 1997. According to the December 28,
1997 edition of the Manchester Union Leader newspaper, three cities in New
Hampshire were named among the top 10 in Money magazine's 11th annual list of the
300 best places to live in the country. Nashua, NH was the number 1 city, Portsmouth, NH
was number 5, and Manchester, NH was number 6.
- Tax Heaven 1997. Listed in the January 5, 1997 edition of New
Hampshire Sunday News, "We're in Heaven! New Hampshire's among the nation's
three top tax heavens, according to Money magazine...
Money magazine's annual ranking of state and local tax tabs found a typical family of four
would pay... $4,638 in New Hampshire, most of it paid in the form of property
taxes... By contrast, the same hypothetical family in NY would owe $14,005..."
- Healthy New Hampshire 1994. Northwestern National Life Insurance
Company reported New Hampshire as the healthiest state in 1994, based on
health care, lifestyles, disability, disease and mortality analyses.
